SERCONS predicts a positive effect from expanding the list of building materials for certification

A new unified list of products subject to mandatory certification and declaration of conformity has finally been approved and new positions have been added to the category of building materials.

Additional 67 groups of goods are now to be declared. However, the list is not new, most of the positions were inherited from Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 982. Dry building mixtures, paints and varnishes, for example, have long been subject to declaration.

Does the innovation mean that the quality of building materials will be noticeably better for the end user?

“Of course, for those positions that are first introduced into mandatory confirmation of conformity, we expect that the quality will noticeably improve and manufacturers will comply with the requirements of national standards, but this will only be closer to September 1, 2023,” explains one of SERCONS’ experts. “Of course, there is a risk that many consumers will encounter low-quality products that unscrupulous manufacturers will still release.

Another 26 product groups are included in the list of products subject to mandatory certification. These are all kinds of pipes, taps, fittings, parts for pipelines, paving slabs, multilayer glass for construction and metal roofing. Prior to the adoption of the new Unified List, these products were not subject to any certification and were virtually uncontrolled, which could well lead to sad consequences and even end fatally for one of the builders or even residents.

Any product that is manufactured in violation of safety requirements, without confirmation of compliance with the standards, can get to the end user and thereby harm health, life of people and animals, the environment and property.

Window and balcony blocks must also be safe and secure. If low-quality profiles are installed in houses, people may get sick, and the window unit may fall on a car or on people passing by. Varnishes, paints used in residential premises can cause mass poisoning if the amount of harmful substances used in the manufacture is not controlled.

Certification market experts positively assess the changes as it will become safer and transparent.
